Meet Kristin Shields

Growing up in a tiny one-stoplight town, DeWitt, Michigan, Kristin has always been an undeniable performer. Her parents would plead with her during Sunday brunch at Big Boy, "Shhh! People did not come here to hear you sing.” At 12, her children's choir performed with the National Tour of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. She got to skip school to perform and was hooked. Summers nerding out at Interlochen Arts Camp and tackling 5 shows a year in a robust high school theatre program led her to studying musical theatre at the University of Michigan, where she graduated with highest honors.

A huge Michigan sports fan, Kristin melded her family's love of sports with her inner theatre nerd and she sang the National Anthem many times for the Detroit Tigers, Detroit Red Wings, and Detroit Lions as well as various U of M sports. This includes that one time she stepped up to home plate and accidentally sang "God Bless America" instead of "The Star Spangled Banner." Don't worry, she recovered quickly and turned it into a rousing Americana medley.

She has since gone on to originate roles in theatres across the country from Off-Broadway to her current artistic home, Jeff Daniels' Purple Rose Theatre. Her smile has sparkled in Orbit Gum and L'Oreal commercials, on tour around the country as Dora the Explorer and in high energy comedies on and off screen. A dynamic actress, Shields captivates audiences with her mix of strength and vulnerability.

Kristin popped out three kiddos, including that one time when there were no doctors present in her hospital room and her husband triumphantly caught the baby, in a bath tub, with zero medical training. She's been bathing in beautiful chaos ever since.
